Some questions  that you can expect to explore here are:

What is Montessori Education?

How is it different from conventional education?

What are the benefits of a ME?

Is ME for all children?

Who was Maria Montessori?

How does ME promote peace?

Let this be a place to explore and ponder the power, beauty, and wisdom of Maria Montessori's vision for human potential and world peace.

Why This Montessori Blog?

I'm passionate about Montessori Education for children and the implications it has for our world. This passion comes out of my experiences as a mother, a  teacher, and as someone who has spent her life interested in children, always intrigued by their mysterious spirit and informed by their often unrecognized potentialities.

My inspiration comes from the children I have known in my life. Their innate potential and inner light have always fascinated me. I have spent my life being intrigued, enlightened, and inspired by the children who have crossed my path. But it was my work as a Montessori teacher that I saw something I had not before-an environment in which the spirit and potential of the child was fully protected and nurtured. The children who were students in my Montessori classrooms gave me an opportunity to see first hand the power and brilliance of Maria Montessori's philosophy and method for educating children. In both public and private schools I witness the unfolding of potential, and it was amazing!

So why this Montessori blog?

To explain how Montessori Education (ME) works, what it looks like in the early childhood and elementary classroom, and to explore the many benefits of Montessori Education for children and society.

Cathleen, your work here is just beautiful....a wonderful embodiment of the spirit of Montessori. The girl with flower photo reminds me of one of my first observations as an intern at the now Seton Montessori Institute. I was observing a two year old girl who was doing simple flower arranging; when she was finished, she skipped across the room. The joy in her heart was a delight to see. As a public school elementary teacher I wondered how we could get some flowers in the public school curriculum to help with this sense of wonder and joy!

How kind of you to comment, Carolyn. This was my big project this fall--to create a blog and a new website. I have really learned a lot! I will keep my old site, (www.teachingforpeace.com) up and running until I have Montessori Wise complete.
